HABITAT NEWSLETTERS

SPRING BLOSSOM PARADE
BLUE RIBBON!
Congratulations Bruce and George Clegg for the 2009
award winning Habitat float.

Come see what Bruce and George have up
their sleeve for the
May 1, 2010 float!
Brown County Habitat Board voted unanimously to name Allen Hazelbaker as the 2009 “Volunteer of the
Year”.  Allen had become a very special member of the Habitat family.  He was known as the “Monday
Master Painter”, present every week during the home builds, virtually doing the entire exterior painting
and staining or whatever needed to be done that day. When Allen learned about this award, he
maintained that, while he didn't deserve it, he was receiving it on behalf of the hundreds of volunteers who
give so generously.

Rather than wait until the Community Band Concert to announce the award, it was presented to Allen last
December before his untimely death on March 6th. The Band then proceeded to dedicate the concert to
Allen with special tribute with renditions of “Over the Rainbow” and “Thanks for the Memories.” Stories of
Allen’s skillful work, and even of some humorous incidents, helped those in attendance celebrate the
memory of a dearly loved friend and neighbor. Allen’s wife Sandee, daughter Christie and husband Mike,
son Brad and wife Elizabeth were also present to enjoy the night dedicated to Allen.

As testimony to Allen and Sandee’s love for Habitat, they created the
Allen and Sandee Hazelbaker Family Scholarship Fund as an
endowment through the Brown County Community Foundation. The Fund
will provide support to the children of Habitat families from 2006 forward, to
further their education beyond high school or G.E.D. Diploma.

Donations may be made through the Brown County Community Foundation.

Brown County Community Band Concert
Join us for the annual Brown County Community Band
Concert to benefit Habitat for Humanity. The event will be
held at the
Brown County High School Auditorium, 7:30pm
on Saturday, April 24th. The band provides great
entertaining music
with professional quality! Then during
the intermission, the new partner family will be introduced
and the 2010 Volunteer of the Year announced. Following
the concert, free cookies in the cafeteria! This is one of
the best community fund raisers for our local affiliate with
as many as 300 in attendance. Ticket sales and
contributions the night of the concert are good, but many
of the dollars come from concert program ad sales. Local
merchants and individuals participate with $25 - $200 ads
printed in the program. Anyone interested in placing an ad
should contact Dona Glentzer by phone at 317-878-5658
or e-mail
dglentzer@yahoo.com. She will be happy to
provide details.
