HABITAT NEWSLETTERS

SPRING BLOSSOM PARADE
Congratulations Bruce and George Clegg
for the 2010 award winning Habitat float.
Brown County Habitat for Humanity wishes to announce our new partner family for the
2010 build. Eric and Shellie Hobson and children, Tristin, Jacob, Jarrod, Chad,
Dakota, Heather and Dylan will be the recipients of the third home in the Pleasant Hills
subdivision on Brocks Lane. Eric is a Brown County High School graduate and being
artistically and mechanically inclined is employed at Al’s Garage/Paint & Body. Shellie,
originally from Plainfield, manages two Old McDurbin Gold & Gift stores in Nashville.
Probably one of her more important managerial duties is holding the blended family of
seven children together. All of the kids, including Heather, have a keen interest in
football and basketball, but Tristin has thought about being a doctor; Jarrod has an
interest in art and architecture. So when the time comes, the Allen Hazelbaker
Scholarship Fund may provide much needed dollars for these Brown County Habitat
kids to attend college.

Eric and Shellie are eager to realize the long awaited dream of home ownership. They
greatly appreciate the opportunity to work with Habitat on the building of their new
home. Shellie stated, “We thank Habitat for choosing our family and recognizing our
needs. As much as we appreciate Habitat’s services, our hearts go out to the other
families that were also considered. We hope that they too will have the same
opportunities as us.”

Brown County Habitat for Humanity welcomes the Hobson Family as our next Partner
Family and wish them all the best as our construction begins this summer.

LOWES SPECIAL EVENT FOR 2010 BUILD
SATURDAY, JULY 24, 2010
Brown County Habitat for Humanity invites the public to help build the 2010
Habitat house for the Hobson family of nine.

All the exterior and interior walls will be built on one day, Saturday, July 24, in
the parking lot of
Lowe’s Home Improvement Center, 3500 10th Street,
Columbus, IN.

Activities will begin at 9:00 a.m. and it is expected that the shell of the house
will be erected on the parking lot by 3:00 p.m.  The walls will then be loaded
onto a truck for delivery to the building site in northeast Brown County.

A national supporter of Habitat since 2003 and underwriter of Habitat’s
Women Build Program, Lowe’s provided Brown County Habitat for Humanity a
$20,000 grant to build the house, as well as volunteer work crews.

All volunteers will receive free tee shirts. The Brown County Dixieland Band
will provide music during the free lunch. There will be kids craft activities from
1:00-3:00 p.m. The American Red Cross will be on hand to help keep
volunteers hydrated and conduct a community blood drive. Pepsi will provide
cold drinks and Cummins, Inc. will provide a generator for the day. It will be a
day when the community – volunteers from Brown County and south central
Indiana – come together to build a house.

You don’t need to have any special skills or even know one end of a hammer
from the other. Just bring a hammer and join us on July 24. It will be a great
way to get involved in building a Habitat house and to demonstrate the
community’s willingness to help our neighbors during these difficult economic
times.
